I was wondering if there was anything in the toothpaste that would increase the glucose levels beyond what they actually are.The a1c globulin test is a diabetic test. The fasting is 12 to 14 hrs.I scored 158, which means I have diabetes.If I brush my teeth during fasting for my a1c globulin test will it give a false reading?
Absolutely no. A1c will detect your diabetes control for the last 3 month. So, it has no effect at all.If I brush my teeth during fasting for my a1c globulin test will it give a false reading?
You could eat anything and everything including all the sugar in the sugar bowl and it will have no effect on your A1c testing.
A1c test is measuring the percentage of glucose molecules clinging to the red blood cells for the past 90 to 120 days.
Fasting is not entirely necessary for having this one test. It is the other testings they do at the same time that require the fasting. Brushing your teeth should have absolutely no bearing on those outcomes.
If I fasted 12 to 14 hours my A1c would be over the moon as the liver gives the signal after 4 to 5 hours that the body is starving so send out the stored glucose to rescue it.
What was your A1c number? your immediate glucose level was 158 mg/dL That does not immediately declare you to be diabetic. You need another testing in about 3 months to check that again.
You have your tests confused. The fasting blood glucose test needs to be fasting for at least 8 hours per the ADA guidelines. The would be the test you got a 158 on ad yes that is high enough to be diabetic. The A1c test you do not need to be fasting, that test shows how well you have been in control the last 3 months weighted to the last 3 weeks. It is a percentage of red blood cells damaged by glucose, normal is 4.2 to 5.9%. Doctors usually order both tests so you will need to be fasting for at least 8 hours.
With your HBA1C test you can eat before test. No problems. It measures your last 3 months average sugar.
Brush away my friend%26gt;
You would have to swallow a bunch of sweet toothpaste for it to have any effect.
