Can a pregnancy test give a false negative if you drank a lot of water before you took it?

i took a 1st response test today but i drank a lot of water before it....like 2 bottles of water so can that make a false negative? Can a pregnancy test give a false negative if you drank a lot of water before you took it?
Actually, yes. The more diluted your urine is, the less of the hormone will be present in the sample. This is especially true early in your pregnancy, like if you have just barely missed your period. So, I would recommend you take another one first thing in the morning. Can a pregnancy test give a false negative if you drank a lot of water before you took it?
It can possibly dilute the hormone. Next time try doing it first thing in the morning, before you eat or drink anything.

Edit: If you are way past your missed period, like over a week, a pregnancy test should pick up no matter how much you have had to drink or what time of day. If it is the day of your missed period or before that, it might not take much to dilute the small amount of hormone that is there. Pregnancy hormones increase as time goes on.

Some people have a hard time getting their pregnancy to show up on hpts. My sister was one, she finally tested positive with a blood test over a month into her pregnancy. GL!
Yes, if you read the insert it will say that excessive amounts of fluid intake will alter the results. It is best to take them in the early morning, your first urination to get the best results!
it could give you a false neg. because it might dilute your urine enough that the test may not pick it up, test again and use your first morn. urine for a more accurate result.
I have heard that it can dilute the hormones, but I am not completely sure if it would affect it or not. Try testing again in a week or so.
